Qualcomm announced that they had set up a new company named Qualcomm Communication Technologies (Shanghai) Co. Ltd.
Located in Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, the new company is reportedly a semiconductor test factory. It is also the first time for Qualcomm to enter the semiconductor manufacturing service sector.
By cooperating with Amkor Technologies, a semiconductor packaging and testing services provider, the new company will be able to play the advantages of both Amkor Technologies and Qualcomm. It is said that Amkor Technologies has extensive testing service experience and leading clean room testing facilities; while Qualcomm is an industrial leader in product engineering and research and development.
The establishment of the new company represents Qualcomm's continuous investment in China and its commitment in helping the development of the Chinese semiconductor business. With this semiconductor testing center, Qualcomm will further improve its customer service level in China, so as to enhance its businesses in the Chinese market.
The new factory is expected to start operation on October 18, 2016.
