Carrefour has added a new greater central region department in China.
Prior to this, the France-based Carrefour business structure in China included the east China region, the north China region, the northeastern region, and the central and western region. After the structural adjustment, provinces like Hunan, Hubei, Henan, Anhui, and Jiangxi will be included in Carrefour's new greater central region, taking Wuhan as its regional headquarters. The western region, headquartered in Chengdu, has 27 stores locating in Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, and Xinjiang. Meanwhile, the coverage of east China region is reduced to Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai.
The retailer also announced a series of appointments. Zhang Qizhe, a member of the executive management committee of Carrefour China and vice president of Carrefour China, will be in charge of the management and operation of the greater central region. Zhang has been working for Carrefour for 15 years and previously worked as a store manager, regional manager, and nationwide organization systems director in China.
Shi Deming, former president for the central and western region and vice president of Carrefour China, will be president of the western region.
Carrefour said that though about 60 out of their over 200 Chinese retail sites are located in the Yangtze River Delta region, the central region boasts the fastest growth. Therefore, the company established the new greater central region to serve the development need in this market.
