Construction has started on Kimberly-Clark's new diaper manufacturing base in the Jiangning Development Zone in Nanjing.
According to local media, the factory is expected to begin production at the beginning of 2013.
Kimberly-Clark said that the company will invest over USD100 million in the new manufacturing base. Upon its completion, it will become a manufacturing base and product development center, integrating product manufacturing, quality control, product innovation, engineering project management, and logistics management.
Zhang Haiying, president for Kimberly-Clark China region, told local media that with the launch of the new plant and the expansion of production scale, the company will be able to stimulate the development of related supporting devices and industries, benefit the local tax and employment, and contribute to the local economy.
Founded in 1872, Kimberly-Clark is one of the world's largest tissue and family and personal care products providers. With annual operating revenue of nearly USD15 billion, it has manufacturing facilities in 37 countries and regions; its products are sold to over 150 countries and regions; and it has about 64,000 employees worldwide. Kimberly-Clark entered the Chinese market in 1994. So far, it has developed three manufacturing units in Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai, respectively.
