The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China has issued a circular which asks for a nationwide campaign to be carried out from now till May 15, 2009 on the household utensils.
Earlier, Chinese media reported that some manufacturers in the country illegally used urea formaldehyde resin to make household utensils in spite of the national standard.
It is learned that the check will focus on the production of household utensils without a certificate; the use of raw materials that do not conform to national standards; passing off in others' names, and the address and quality logo in household utensil production.
The circular stresses that regions that have problems applicable to their specific region should take intensive measures to solve the problem by themselves.
It is said that urea formaldehyde resin will dissolve and yield formaldehyde under high temperature when mixed with water, while formaldehyde is a commonly known as a carcinogen.
