Praxair China, a subsidiary of Praxair, Inc., has signed a contract to supply liquid nitrogen and an advanced nitrogen cooling system to Jiangsu Defeng Pharmaceutical & Chemical Co., Ltd.
Defeng produces active pharmaceutical ingredients and will introduce a new product which requires rapid cooling to below –30°C in a large volume reactor. Defeng said that the decision was based on the quality of the liquid nitrogen, reliability, and the new technology offered by Praxair.
"This new application of the NCOOL technology opens up another segment of the fast growing cryogenic refrigeration market in the pharmaceutical industry," said David Chow, president of Praxair China.
The NCOO indirect cooling system is based on a cryogenic heat exchanger. Because this cooling system uses heat exchange from liquid nitrogen rather than mechanical refrigeration, it has few moving parts and does not use halogenated coolants such as CFCs or other ozone-depleting substances. The NCOOL heat exchanger is used for precision cooling of production freeze-dryers and chemical reactors.
