Wal-Mart China announced the reopening of the Tianjin Distribution Center, after relocation.
Opened in 2003, the original Wal-Mart Tianjin Distribution Center is the only distribution center serving Wal-Mart stores north of the Yangtze River areas. The relocation is a strategic move for Wal-Mart's sustainable development in China. The new distribution center, developed by Wal-Mart's wholly owned subsidiary Gazeley, a global leading provider of sustainable logistics space, is located at the Beichen District of Tianjin City and covers an area of 43,000 square meters, with nearly 300 full time employees.
The new distribution center has been partly in use since October 8 and is expected to reach a daily capacity of 330,000 cases per day, four times of the old one, when in full operation, which helps lower distribution and inventory costs attached to suppliers as well as cutting operation costs while improving work efficiency in Wal-Mart stores, leading to lower product prices for customers and better working environment for associates.
